CERVICAL SCREENING

In the UK, cervical screening is offered to women aged 25 to 64 through the National Health Service (NHS) Cervical Screening Programme. Women between the ages of 25 and 49 are invited for screening every 3 years, while women between the ages of 50 and 64 are invited every 5 years.

During the screening, a healthcare professional will take a sample of cells from the cervix, which is then sent to a laboratory for analysis. The purpose of cervical screening is to detect any abnormalities in the cells of the cervix that could potentially develop into cervical cancer if left untreated.

It is important for women in the UK to attend their cervical screening appointments when invited, as early detection through screening can significantly reduce the risk of developing cervical cancer. Women can contact their GP or local sexual health clinic to schedule a cervical screening appointment or to discuss any concerns they may have about the screening process.
